Teachers play a key role in translating climate change education into meaningful learning and action in schools. Under GenCAN, CEE, in collaboration with HCLFoundation, conducts national-level online training, monthly thematic and handholding sessions, and in-person workshops to strengthen teachers’ understanding of climate science and support implementation of the GenCAN Climate Action Leadership Challenge. Monthly meetings provide continued guidance, thematic learning, peer exchange, and support in addressing challenge-related queries. In-person training has been conducted across locations including Noida, Hardoi, Lucknow, Nagpur, Chennai, Madurai, and Bengaluru, along with workshops in collaboration with State Education Departments in Gujarat, Sikkim, and other regions. Through this blended approach, GenCAN is building a growing network of empowered Mentor Teachers who guide students from climate literacy and investigation to action and reporting.

GenCAN Student Climate Leaders are oriented to build their understanding of climate science, causes and impacts of climate change, carbon footprints, and the role of youth in climate action. CEE conducts online and in-person orientation sessions across multiple locations, engaging students in interactive and skill-based learning. Sessions focus on practical skills such as data collection, designing surveys, conducting school audits, reading electricity bills, understanding transport patterns, water use, and waste segregation. Through expert interactions, hands-on activities, and collaborative learning, students are empowered to investigate their school’s environmental footprint, identify solutions, and lead meaningful actions towards creating climate-friendly school campuses.
